Fun fact
Sketch commissioned over a 100 clay vessels, vases and pendant lights in different shapes and sizes. Each vessel was handcrafted by renowned local artist, Nindya Bucktower, at her studio in KwaZulu-Natal.
Our favourite part
The brief was to redo an existing restaurant into a new brand called Akti, while still using as many of the original features as possible.
This challenge for designers is referred to as adaptive reuse. Our sustainable approach resulted in a brand-new experience that incorporated existing elements in a fresh and original way.

Our favourite part
The façade, hands-down, is our favourite part. The design is a complete departure from the traditional mall storefront that prevailed for many years. The unique shape is balanced, but anchored with an asymmetrical column, creating interest. The arches mirror and repeat throughout the interior creating design continuity, but also spatial divides. It’s impressive and welcoming in equal measures.
